Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Health Impact Assessment (HIA)
constitute important tools for the promotion of sustainable development in the
transport sector. On the regional level, the
UNECE Espoo Convention and its Protocol set obligations for States
Parties on the undertaking of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and SEA.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS), i.e. computerized data management systems
designed to capture, store, retrieve, analyse, and display spatially referenced
data are powerful tools to help in the analysis and in decision making towards
the integration of transport, environment and health policies.
